PPP opposes any dam, canal on Indus

Perceived partial and wrong decisions of successive rulers have destroyed the Indus River, according to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
In a statement issued on Sunday, PPP Sindh General Secretary Taj Haider and office-bearers of the PPP Karachi division Najmi Alam, Saeed Ghani, Habibuddin Junaidi and Lateef Mughal appreciated the people of Sindh for observing the Indus Day on Sunday to highlight the significance of the river.
They said that today there was no water in the river and because of lack of fresh flow to downstream Kotri, around 2.2 million acres of three districts had been destroyed, rendering hundreds of thousands of farmers and fishermen jobless besides adversely affecting the food production of Sindh.
They said that it was consensus demand of the people of Sindh that no dams or canals should be constructed on the Indus River as it would destroy the economy of the province.
