Eco-tourism to be promoted
The Sindh government is planning to promote ecotourism in Nagarparkar, Tharparkar district, focussing on attracting local and international tourists to visit the historical sites and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
In this regard, adviser to Sindh chief minister Sharmila Farooqui has sent a project proposal to the chief minister for approval, in which she has recommended to declare Nagarparkar as a national park.
The letter said that uncontrolled use of natural resources has indirectly put the entire ecosystem at risk. Vast rangelands that can bring in an improved and better living standard to the local community through its wise and sustainable use are being overlooked, mismanaged and wasted.
The advisor told The News that she has visited the area and designed a proposal to save the natural resources and went on to add that the area has great potential to promote tourism.
The project will also function to preserve and restore the old historical temples and mosques existing in a deplorable condition. In this regard, a non-governmental organisation will implement the ecotourism project.
